CHITWAN, May 29: Vote count in Bharatpur Metropolitan City has been suspended after tension flared in the vote count station at midnight.

As there was tough competition between mayor candidates, Devi Gyawali of CPN-UML and Renu Dahal of CPN (Maoist Center), the tension flared during the vote count.

UML has alleged representatives of Maoist Center of tearing the stamped ballot papers during the vote count. UML has claimed that YCL District Chairperson Madhu Neupane and another Maoist Center cadre Drona Siwakoti were involved in the act.

As the tension grew up, police took the situation in control by charging batons and taking Neupane and Siwakoti in its control.

Following the incident, the office of returning officer in Bharatpur has suspended the vote count process when the vote count of ward number 19 was going on.
