A 13-member national secretariat committee, formed to effectively implement the programs, is mulling over more than 17 programs to be conducted during the ´Visit Lumbini Year-2012´.[break]
“We are mulling over various programs to be conducted during the visit year 2012. We have already formed a committee to plan and implement the programs,” said Laxmi Bhattarai, staff of the national secretariat committee under Lumbini Development Trust.
Organizing gatherings of representatives of organizations dedicated to Buddhism at Lumbini, promoting Lumbini by appointing ambassadors, pasting stickers on public and private vehicles, distributing 2012 calendars, t-shirts and caps with logos, engaging media houses for promoting VLY and issuing Visit Lumbini Year 2012 postal stamps are some of the major programs, Bhattarai informed.
For ambassadors, the committee has proposed the names of Ani Chhoing Drolma, Hollywood star Jackie Chan, Chinese actors Ju Dangyu and Toni Long, Kanhing Sudharat, Speaker of Sri Lankan parliament Chamal Rajapaksa, and Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Rekha.
“The main objective of this program is to draw national and international attention and raise awareness about Lumbini,” Bhattarai said. He added that another important objective behind organizing the VLY is to help the High Level National Steering Committee for the development of Greater Lumbini.
Visit Lumbini Year 2012 national secretariat will officially launch the program on December 1 at Central Canal located within the Lumbini Master Plan Area.
