Vitamin A campaign affected as health posts remain shut

MAHENDRANAGAR, April 26: The vitamin A and anti-worm medicine distribution campaign has been affected in Rugin VDC of Bajura as the health posts in the area remains closed for the past two weeks. The VDC lies in the remotest part of the district.



Children of the VDC have not been given the medicines as staffer in both the health posts are on leave. The closure of the health posts has also affected basic health service delivery in the district. [break]



According to Dhana Bhandari, a member of the Health Management Committee, Assistance Nurse Midwife (ANM) Jana Joshi is on a three-month leave. Similarly, health post in-charge Tej Singh Saud is also on leave for the last one month.



“The closure of health posts has affected the government´s Vitamin A and anti worm medicine distribution campaign,” informed Bhandari. The government has been carrying out the campaign every year mid-April. He also informed that around 20 patients visit the health posts everyday.



Dev Jung Malla, a local of Rugin, said that with the beginning of summer season patients of common cold, diarrhea and dysentery have increased in the VDC. Pregnant women, who need regular check up, have been the hardest hit.
