Vipassana Center inaugurated in Nakhu jail

KATHMANDU, Feb 20: A Vipassana Center has been inaugurated at Nakhu jail in Lalitpur.


Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha on Tuesday inaugurated the Vipassana center 'Dhammasaya' built at the prison office in Nakhu.


A meditation camp for 48 inmates will be conducted in this jail for 12 days.

Along with this, Nepal Vipassana Center has built 19 meditation centers across the country. 


While inaugurating the meditation center, Home Minister Shrestha said that thinking about changing oneself, becoming self-aware and transforming society can be achieved through meditation.


Home Minister Shrestha said in the program attended by the prisoners, “You made a mistake once; you committed a crime. Through meditation, you will come to realize you have to become better and change.”


The center has already conducted camps in prisons in 16 countries.
