In eastern Nepal, a group of around three dozen CPN-Maoist cadres attacked UCPN (Maoist) candidate and activists in constituency-2 of Dailekh on Wednesday while the latter were organizing an election campaign at Hulakdanda of Singaudi. [break]
The assaulters returned after looting the publicity materials, though UCPN (Maoist) candidate Thira Bahadur Karki was taken to a safe place by the police and the supporters.
The police had to dispatch reinforcement after six personnel deployed for the campaign struggled to take the situation under control.
The campaign program resumed after two hours. No arrest has been made so far.
Also in eastern Nepal, a vehicle used by a Nepali Congress candidate has been vandalized by an unidentified group in Dhankuta. The vehicle with the plate number ME 1 JA 237 owned NC´s Constituency 2 candidate Ananda Santoshi Rai was vandalized on Tuesday midnight.
Similar incidents have taken places in western parts of the country, too.
UCPN (Maoist) cadres clashed with Nepali Congress activists on Wednesday in Gorkha. Police had to open two rounds of blank firing to disperse the fighting sides.
Further west, an unidentified group torched a vehicle of Shanta Chaudhary, the CPN-UML candidate from constituency-2 of Dang, on Tuesday night.
The jeep with the registration number RA 1 JA 365 was set alight by the group while it was parked at Laxmipur.
Police Inspector Rajendra Adhikari informed that further investigation is underway.
A vehicle used by CPN - UML candidate from constituency-4 was also vandalized earlier by some unidentified group in Tulsipur.
