BABIYACHAUR (Myagdi), July 24: A distance which usually took five hours' travel on foot has now been cut short to only 45 minutes after a suspension bridge was set up over the raging Kaligandaki river at Baiseri village in Myagdi.

The locals of Aaula and Rima including Kafaldanda of Ramche – 9 can finally heave a sigh of relief as the tedious roundabout route has been shortened with the suspension bridge over Kaligandaki river at Baiseri, which lies between the border of Ramche – 9 and Bhagawati – 2.

On May 24, 2015 a landslide fell down from Kafaldanda cliff burying two suspension bridges and thereby forcing the locals to take a roundabout route to district headquarters of Beni.

They had to travel on foot for five hours around the Mahabhir locality via Kafaldanda from Ramche. Now the route has been shortened to 45 minutes' distance, said Shiva Purja, a local from Aaula.

Around 500 households have benefited from the installation of the suspension bridge making it easier for them to seek medical treatment, supply daily essential commodities and also seek government services and facilities at the central market area.

The villagers had set up a makeshift wooden bridge during the winter to cross the river, but it became too risky as the water level rose in the river with the onset of monsoon.

District Development Committee's sub-engineer, Bal Krishna Poudel, said the suspension bridge was installed at a cost of Rs 3.7 million. RSS
