GORKHA, Oct 4
Locals of Lapu VDC in Northern Gorkha have demanded proper health facilities and service after some villagers' health conditions worsened in lack of it. A delegation of eight locals wrote an application to District Health Office demanding a health specialist along with a health assistant immediately. The villagers have been suffering from headache, neck pain, dizziness and fever since a week.
Jiv Gurung, principal of Pravatkiran H.S. School in Lapu VDC-3 said that 34 students have been affected due to the unidentified epidemic. Gurung said, "Six students could not attend the terminal exams that started from Thursday. One of our students, Bipasha Gurung has been sent to Pokhara for treatment."
He added that students Manakumari Gurung, Indra Gurung, Budhbhadur Gurung, Santamaya Gurung and Sarita Gurung could not attend their exams. Shyam Nepali, a teacher at the school said," The remaining 28 students who attended the exams are also falling sick."
Vice-principal of Pravatkiran H.S. School, Rishi Dev Regmi said that the health post which is just 20 minutes away from school does not have any medicines except paracetamol. So, the health of students is worsening day by day".
Locals complained that the health workers in the health post did not care much about the need of providing services to them. Meanwhile, sources at District Health Office informed that they have been in regular contact with the health post and have directed health workers to effectively manage the necessary requirements.
One of the health assistants, Narjung Thakuri said that they have been preparing to send the medicines to Lapu VDC immediately. Earthquake damaged roads have further hampered the locals in accessing health services.
