Vice President Pun attends function to mark International Everest Day in Austria

KATHMANDU, May 30: Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun attended a function to mark the International Everest Day held in Innsbruck, the capital of Austria’s western state of Tyrol, on Wednesday.

Vice-president Pun, who is currently paying a visit to Austria to attend the R20 Austrian World Summit, attended the program organized by Vienna-based Nepali Embassy.

Addressing the event, Vice President Pun said that foreign climbers who scale the Mount Everest are not only the guests of Nepal but they are also the messengers of Nepal who introduce Nepal to the entire world.

“Nepal is a country of Himalayas and mountaineering has become the identity of identity of Nepal,” he said adding “Eight out of the world’s 14 highest peaks are located in Nepal. Hence, we are known for the Himalayas.”

The vice president said that the Austrian climbers visiting Nepal are becoming the bridge for promoting the cordial ties between the two countries.

“Tourism has been contributing to uplift our economcy as it is a major source of national income,” he said.

The vice president also highlighted about the government’s plan to celebrate 2020 as the tourism year. He urged the Austrians to visit Nepal.
