“If private vehicle owners become our members, they will not need to go to pay tax or renew their vehicle registration themselves. They do not have to go to traffic police office to pay fines or to get other services. The forum will provide all these services to its members,” said Binod KC, founding president of the Forum.[break]
The forum officials said the forum will also assist the vehicle owners to get police reports, claim insurance and file cases in case of accidents or theft of vehicles. “We are offering these services because we want all the private vehicle owners to organize themselves under an umbrella of the forum so that we can raise a collective voice to get our genuine concerns addressed by the government,” KC said at a press meet Thursday.
As such services are provided for members only, KC appealed to all the private vehicle owners to acquire forum´s membership. Four wheeler owners can become members by paying annul fee of Rs 1,000, he said, adding that the membership fee for two-wheeler has been fixed at Rs 500 per annum.
According to KC, the forum came into existence in mid-May 2011 and has about 150 members till date. It is providing services to vehicle owners of the Kathmandu Valley only. “But we plan to expand throughout the country in days to come,” he stated.
