Prices of vegetables such as onion, cabbage, cow pea, bottle gourd, pumpkin, mushroom and parsley, among others, have come down significantly compared to prices recorded a fortnight ago.[break]
Binaya Shrestha, senior planning officer with the Kalimati Fruits and Vegetables Market Development Board (KFVMDB), said vegetables supplies have improved aft4er the end of monsoon. “The market is receiving around 650 tons of vegetables a day, compared to around 600 tons recorded couple of weeks ago,” Shrestha added. “Vegetables prices may drop further as supplies have been improving every day.”
Onion is selling at Rs 92 per kg, down from Rs 96 per kg recorded a week ago. Similarly, price of cabbage has dropped by Rs 11 to Rs 32 per kg while the prices of bottle gourd and cow pea have come down by Rs 10 per kg each to Rs 27 and Rs 37 per kg, respectively. Price of pumpkin has also dropped to Rs 27 per kg, from Rs 37 per kg recorded a fortnight ago.
Mushroom and parsley are selling at Rs 145 per kg each, down by Rs 30 and Rs 10 per kg respectively. Okra and squash have become cheaper by Rs 5 per kg each to Rs 42 and Rs 17 per kg respectively.
However, prices of carrot, fern and asparagus have increased by Rs 25, Rs 10 and Rs 165 per kg, respectively, to Rs 82, Rs 65 and Rs 375 per kg.
