During the meeting held at the finance ministry, envoy Bode expressed his concerns to Minister Pun about the urgency of enacting the bill on control of organized crime and reminded that Nepal will be blacklisted if it failed to endorse the bill before the meeting of Financial Action Task Force (FATF) scheduled for next month.[break]
Responding to Bode’s concerns, Minister Pun assured that he will take necessary action for endorsement of the bill on time.
Last year, the cabinet had handed over the draft of the anti-money laundering ordinances--Extradition Ordinance, Mutual Cooperation Ordinance and the Ordinance to Control of Organized Crime--to President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, but the state head then endorsed only two ordinances in view of national interest.
During the meeting, envoy Bode also inquired about the implementation status of US assistance in Nepal and ongoing US development projects.
In response, Minister Pun said that investment environment in Nepal is encouraging despite the fact that Nepal failed to bring the new budget.
On the occasion, the US envoy expressed his confidence that the political parties would soon be able to forge consensus and urged Minister Pun to take measures in that direction, at the earliest.
