Unity-scam masterminds get 7 years in jail

KATHMANDU, Aug 2: The District Court Lalitpur on Sunday sentenced Unity Life International (ULI) scam masterminds to seven years in jail.

According to the District Court Registrar Baburam Dahal, former ULI Managing Director Bishnu Bahadur Chhetri, 42, originally from Dandakharka VDC-3 of Parbat district and his brother Krishna Bahadur Chhetri, 47, who was the training director of ULI, were sent to Nakkhu Prison in Lalipur after they failed to deposit the fine stipulated by the court.The court on March 31, 2014 had convicted the duo along with 10 others of illegally operating network marketing business. The court had sentenced them to three years in jail along with a fine of Rs 10.62 million each.

The court had convicted the operators including the Chhetri duo of illegally operating network marketing business and sentenced them to three years along with a fine of Rs 1.62 million each. The court sentenced them to additional four years after they failed to deposit the fine.

Five years after the government clampdown on ULI Nepal Police on last Friday had arrested the two absconding masterminds from India.
