Unidentified disease claims seven, dozens taken ill in Humla in past three weeks

HUMLA, Jan 26: At least seven persons have died and dozens have been taken ill due to an unidentified disease in Humla district in the past three weeks, district authorities said.

HUMLA, Jan 26: At least seven persons have died and dozens have been taken ill due to an unidentified disease in Humla district in the past three weeks, district authorities said.


The unidentified disease has gone out of control in Kharpunath, Chankheli and Sarkegad rural municipalities of the district. However, the doctors have not reached the disease-affected areas owing to bad weather and difficult terrain.

The local health posts are running out of medicines, according to locals. The local health posts do not have specialized doctors to treat the affected people.


At least six people died of common cold and fever in this period at Mashidhara area of Chankheli rural municipality-6 alone. The deceased have been identified as Madan Shahi, 45, Janukala Shahi, 50, Datiram Karki, 65, Gori Sarki, 60, and Pauri Shahi, 60.


Likewise, 55-year-old Rangamal Phadera of Sarkegad-3 and 35-year-old Chanda Budha of Kharpunath-3 lost their lives due to unidentified disease.


Police Inspector Raj Kumar Pahadi said that they are yet to confirm the death toll due to the unidentified disease.
