UNESCO Director-General arriving tomorrow

KATHMANDU, April 16: United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Director-General, Irina Bokova, is arriving on Sunday for a three-day visit to Nepal during which she will take stock of the post-quake reconstruction and rehabilitation process.

The UNESCO Director-General will separately meet with President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa, Education Minister Girirajmani Pokharel and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Ananda Prasad Pokharel, UNESCO Office said.


Director-General Bokova will also go on inspection tour of the UNESCO run projects and pay a visit to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

UNESCO was established in 1945 to contribute to peace and security by promoting international collaboration through educational, scientific and cultural reforms in order to increase universal respect for justice, rule of law and human rights and fundamental freedom. Nepal became a member of UNESCO in 1952.

UNESCO established its office in Nepal in 1998 and has been working in the field of education, science, culture and information. RSS
