Issuing a press statement on Thursday, United Nations Resident Coordinator Jamie McGoldrick asked all to stand by the Election Commission and the Interim Electoral Council of Ministers in ensuring a conducive and peaceful election environment. [break]
“The international community in Nepal is united in its support for the Nepali people in their historic aspiration to draft a democratic constitution through an elected Constituent Assembly,” said McGoldrick in the statement.
McGoldrick also appreciated the election preparations made so far. “The international community greatly appreciates the briefing given yesterday [Wednesday by the Election Commission, which showed the efficient progress it is making towards conducting credible and inclusive election,” he said.
The international community has also lauded initiatives being taken by the government and political parties to bring all the dissenting political parties onboard the election process. “It also recognizes the efforts of the political parties in working together to create an inclusive election environment. Progress has been impressive, but challenges remain,” he further said.
