The party´s top body also decided to take initiatives to take on board the disgruntled parties and regional groups so as to remove obstructions in the election process.
“The meeting has concluded that disgruntled political sections should be convinced to participate in the election process. We [UML party] will take initiatives for dialogues on our own and we will also urge the government as well as the high-level political committee to hold talks with them,” UML Secretary Shankar Pokharel told Republica.
The Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist, Ashok Rai-led Federal Socialist Party and some other regional groups have expressed serious objections to formation of the government under the leadership of chief justice and announced not only to boycott but also to disrupt the election process.
Pokharel said the party would insist on implementation of the updated voter list in the polls. "We are also for electronic voting because it is not only a political commitment but the election laws have also made it mandatory," he explained.
The party also demanded fresh appointments in the boards of some commissions and vital government bodies that might influence the election. The UML is for fresh appointments in National Planning Commission, Poverty Alleviation Fund and Nepal Electricity Authority, among other bodies.
The meeting also scheduled the party´s politburo meeting for next week and a meeting of the all-powerful body central committee subsequently to set party policy, plans and programs with regard to the coming elections.
Ram Chandra Jha urged not to quit party
The standing committee also decided to reject politburo member Ram Chandra Jha´s resignation from the party. They also decided to request him to return to the party.
"We have decided to request him to give continuity to his party responsibilities," said Pokharel.
Jha had last week announced his resignation accusing the party leadership of depriving genuine party members from vital posts and responsibilities. Jha has been opposing the party´s official policy on state restructuring. He advocates for identity-based federalism.
