UML’s Bagmati Province convention to commence today, closed session tomorrow

KATHMANDU, Sept 25: The Bagmati Province convention of the CPN-UML is starting today. UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli will inaugurate the convention which will start at 11AM today at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu.

UML has scheduled a closed session from tomorrow at Nepal Academy Hall, Kamaladi. In the session, four aspirants are in the fray, including two central members.

The names of Kailash Dhungel from Ramechhap and Krishna Dahal from Makwanpur have been discussed in the context of the provincial chairman's post.

UML has a 479-member provincial organization committee in Bagmati Province, while the district chairpersons of 13 districts are ex-officio members.

During the convention, a 240-member committee will be elected, including a chairman, a vice-chairman, a secretary, and two under secretaries. Following the election of the provincial committee, there will be 75 base members, in addition to 240 members elected at a rate of 5 from each of the 33 constituencies of the House of Representatives.

The Province convention has seen more than 1,150 representatives elected out of the total 19,238 representatives. All these representatives were elected unanimously, with 900 from geographical constituencies, 70 from people's organizations, and 30 from various departments. The UML’s statute allows for the nomination of five percent of the total number of representatives, although those representatives are yet to be elected.
