Alternative central member of CPN-UML Haridev Mandal and central member of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Girijanand Jha are joining the UCPN (Maoist) on Tuesday. The UCPN(Maoist) will welcome them at a function at party central office at Perishdanda. [break]
Talking to Republica, Haridev Mandal said that the UML was no longer a communist party. “UML is a totally anti-Madhes party,” said Mandal, adding, “The Maoists are the lone party speaking up for oppressed groups.” He accused Madhes-based parties of opportunism.
“Madhes-based parties are no longer rights activists, rather they are mere opportunists,” he said and also claimed that they have lost their bond of trust with Madhes.
Noted journalist Ajay Anuragi observes that Madhesi leaders have lost their basis in Madhes and are switching sides just to gain political strength. “Small parties like the Anil Jha-led Federal Sadbhavana Party have lost the faith of Madhesi people,” said Anuragi, adding, “Many leaders from different corners will switch sides within a few weeks.” He said that Madhes-based parties will suffer in the upcoming CA poll because of their greed for power in the last CA.
It may be recalled that many Madhesi central members of various parties switched sides last month.
