KATHMANDU: The Standing Committee of the second biggest ruling party, CPN-UML, has expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation and increasing chaos in the industrial sector.

Most of the members during Thursday’s Standing Committee meeting claimed that the country was going to plunge into a serious political and financial crisis if the government fails to bridge its widening gap with the opposition parties and resolve the problems facing the industrial sector.

“The government has failed to play an effective role in dealing with the problems,” said Standing Committee member Amrit Bohara.

He said the members stressed the need for immediate initiatives to overcome the growing rifts among the political parties now that the constitution drafting process has commenced. “They called for more sincerity on the part of the Prime Minister towards implementation of past pacts and agreements,” said Bohara. “We all feel that the Prime Minister’s irresponsible comments have increased suspicions among the people about the future of the peace process.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bam Dev Gautam was present when members were criticizing the government on law and order.

The meeting also discussed the agenda for the party’s Central Committee meeting scheduled for December 22.
