KATHMANDU, April 26: The main opposition CPN (UML) has objected to the Election Commission decision to conduct the vote counting of the local-level election of a first phase instantly and to allow the government present the budget before a second-phase election.

A delegation led by party parliamentary deputy leader Subash Nembang  called on Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav and commissioners on Wednesday, drawing their attention towards the possibility of an influence to a second-phase election by the immediate vote counts of a first election. On the occasion, EC commissioners were urged to be attentive towards the sensitivity, credibility and reliability of the election.

The delegation expressed its disapproval to the government and EC decision to revise the election schedule and to conduct the election in two rounds in a 'long-gap' without what it said consulting the party.

On the occasion, the delegation stressed on the EC responsibility to maintain the credibility and impartiality of election.

Stating that the party was geared up for the election by respecting the earlier decision to hold the election in a single-phase on May 14, the delegation claimed that the declaration to conduct in two rounds came abruptly was itself wrong.

Talking to media persons after the meeting, deputy leader Nembang claimed that the government plan to announce the budget on May 29 amidst a first and second election would be violation of the election code of conduct.

A wave of election was sweeping across the country and at this backdrop, the proposal to increase the number of local levels would not be acceptable for the party. RSS
