UML names candidates for by-elections

KATHMANDU, March 13: Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), the third largest party in the Constituent Assembly (CA), announced on Friday names of its candidates to contest in the April 10 by-elections for six CA seats. [break]



A statement issued by Yubaraj Gyawali, secretary of the party, said a meeting of the office-bearers chaired by party Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal on Thursday chose Binod Dhakal to contest from Morang-7, Jeevan Ghimire from Morang-5, Raghubir Mahaseth from Dhanusha-5, Shalik Ram Poudel from Kaski-1, Hari Prasad Gharti Magar from Rolpa-2 and Niru Pal from Kanchanpur-4.



Dhakal is currently the Morang district secretary of the party and Ghimire is the central vice-president of Democratic National Youth Federation (DNYF), a youth wing of the party. Mahaseth, a UML central member, was defeated by Sanjay Kumar Sah of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum from Dhanusha-4 in last year´s CA poll.



Likewise, Poudel is a former mayor of Lekhnath Municipality and currently a member of the Kaski district committee of the party. Magar is the deputy secretary of the UML´s Rolpa district committee, while Pal is a central member of DNYF and member of the party´s Kanchanpur district committee.
