KATHMANDU, Feb 3: Influential leaders of the ruling CPN-UML came down heavily on Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli criticizing his government of poor performance and him of issuing 'non-substantiated' statements and taking unilateral decisions without holding consultation in the party.

Senior leaders of the party including former party chairman and PM Jhlalnath Khanal, former PM Madav Kumar Nepal, among others accused PM Oli, also the party chairman, of running the party in arbitrary manner without holding any discussions within the party before taking decisions of national importance.

Among other issues, they criticized PM Oli for issuing baseless statements on generating thousands of megawatts of energy from wind and solar without seriously studying the matter.

Former PM Nepal said that PM Oli would not have faced public criticism if the latter had not issued non substantiated statement of producing massive amount of electricity through wind and solar.

"Such statements shouldn't be given without first enquiring about its feasibility, price and other factors in detail," said Nepal addressing a gathering at Nepal Academy in Kathmandu on Tuesday. "A person like the prime minister shouldn't give speech on technical matters on the basis of rumors and hype."

"Our party from the last general election adopted a policy of engaging each and every cadre in a productive task but a large section of party rank and file have been rendered jobless for the last one and half years," he said accusing Oli of acting on his own.

Former PM Khanal accused Oli of failing to mobilize party members across the country to inform general people about the new constitution and thereby paving way for 'anti-constitution' elements to misinform the general public across the nation.

Central Committee member Ramkumari Jhankri criticized PM Oli for his statement at a time when the general public is forced to bear the brunt of 13 hours power outage. "The top executive of the nation should be implementing some tangible programs and give results on time to the public instead of just selling dreams to the general public," she said.

Similarly, deputy general-secretary of the party Ghanashyam Bhusal said that Oli as the leader of the party and of the government has failed to give direction in both the fronts due to lack of visionary leadership qualities.

"When a leader lacks visionary leadership qualities and lacks understanding of the party's guiding principles, remarks like generating thousands of megawatts of wind power within a year are issued," Bhusal said.

He asserted that Oli failed to prepare the party and the country for facing the challenges resulted from the sea of changes that are taking place in India, China and other countries in the region.

Party secretary Yogesh Bhattarai accused Oli of rendering over 3,000 cadres jobless and various party departments non-functioning without giving full shape to the bodies even after one and half years after the general convention
