KATHMANDU, Sept 10: Lawmakers belonging to the main opposition party, CPN-UML, have obstructed the parliamentary meeting after it began on Friday afternoon.

The UML lawmakers picketed the rostrum shortly after Speaker Agni Sapkota commenced the proceedings of the meeting. They chanted strong slogans against Speaker Sapkota.

Some of the slogans chanted by the agitating UML lawmakers included 'maintain parliamentary dignity' and 'Down with the behavior of Speaker'. Speaker Sapkota had put off the meeting for Friday after the UML lawmakers repeatedly obstructed the meeting on Wednesday.

The UML has taken strong exception to the decision of Speaker Sapkota not to dismiss 14 lawmakers including Madhav Kumar Nepal as recommended by the UML. The party has alleged that Speaker Sapkota had played a role of accomplice to allow Nepal to form a new party by delaying the decision to dismiss them.

Despite protests from the UML lawmakers, the government tabled an ordinance on political party on Wednesday. The government is scheduled to table the ordinance on annual budget during the meeting on Friday.
