KATHMANDU, July 1: Lawmakers of the main opposition party CPN-UML have boycotted today's meeting of the National Assembly. The agenda of today’s meeting was to hold a section-wise discussion on the Finance Bill, 2079 BS’ that was presented by Finance Minister Janardan Sharma in the House of Representatives. 


UML lawmakers have been accusing Finance Minister Sharma of manipulating tax rates by involving an unauthorized person in budget making a day before the presentation of the budget. They have been demanding the formation of a parliamentary inquiry committee to probe the matter.

At the beginning of the meeting, UML MP Bhairav ​​Sundar Shrestha said that they would continue their protest until an impartial investigation is carried out as the country has been harmed by the access of unauthorized persons during the preparation of the budget.


Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Prasad Timilsina pushed the agenda of the meeting, amid the UML boycott. The meeting passed the proposal of Finance Minister Sharma to hold a section-wise discussion on the Finance Bill, 2079 BS’ by a majority.
