UML changes mayoral candidate in Pokhara

POKHARA, April 25: The CPN-UML leader Krishna Thapa has resigned from his post as Gandaki Provincial Assembly member after receiving the ticket for the mayoral candidate of Pokhara Metropolitan City.

POKHARA, April 25: The CPN-UML leader Krishna Thapa has resigned from his post as Gandaki Provincial Assembly member after receiving the ticket for the mayoral candidate of Pokhara Metropolitan City. 


At the eleventh hour, the UML snatched the mayoral ticket given to Deepak Poudel and gave it to Thapa instead, changing the party’s candidate for the upcoming local polls.

After confirming his candidacy for the mayoral post, Thapa tendered his resignation to Speaker Netranath Adhikari. 


UML snatched away the ticket from Poudel after he was criticized for stealing gold. A video of Poudel allegedly involved in gold theft about ten years ago was posted on social media has lately gone viral


Poudel, who got the ticket earlier, is a supporter of UML Deputy General Secretary Prithvi Subba Gurung, while Thapa is close to the faction led by Khagraj Adhikari.
