UML to honor former president Bhandari with National Pride Medal


KATHMANDU, April 22:  The CPN-UML is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the party on Monday.


On the occasion of CPN-UML establishment day, the UML is organizing a special function at Godavari in Lalitpur today. UML Publicity Department Head Rajendra Gautam said that Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal, President of Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba will participate in the program which will start after 10 AM.

The UML has announced that it will honor former President and the party’s former vice-chair Bidya Devi Bhandari with a national pride medal at the party's diamond jubilee celebration.


The proposal was presented at the party's convention representative council meeting held at Godavari in Lalitpur on Saturday and Sunday. The proposal was presented by party senior Vice Chairman Ishwar Pokharel, who chaired the council meeting on behalf of the party.


Presenting the proposal, Vice Chairman Pokharel said that former president Bhandari is being honored on  Diamond Jubilee as per the announced plan to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the country's democratic and communist movements.


Nepal Communist Party (NCP) was established in Nepal on April 22, 1949 under the leadership of Pushpa Lal Shrestha.


The founders of the UML were Pushpalal Shrestha, Nar Bahadur Karmacharya, Narayan Bilas Joshi, Niranjan Govinda Vaidya and Moti Devi Shrestha.
