UML asks district committees to collect food for quake victims

KATHMANDU, May 4: CPN-UML leadership has directed the party's zonal and district committees across the Tarai region to collect 1,000 quintals of rice and pulses in each district for the earthquake victims.

"Please pack the foodstuffs in packets of 25 kg and send them to the party central office," read a statement issued by party secretary Pradeep Gyawali on Monday.The circular was issued as per the decision of the party's standing committee on Sunday. There are 22 districts in the Tarai region all the way from Jhapa in the east to Kanchanpur in the far-west.

The party has also decided to give continuity to collection of relief fund, which will be deposited in CPN-UML natural disaster relief fund.

The party has planned to distribute relief materials to the 15 severely-hit districts, including Lamjung, Gorkha, Dhading, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavre, Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Sindhuli and Okhaldhunga.
