BHAKTAPUR, May 22: Madan Sundar Shrestha, CPN-UML mayoral candidate backed by Nepal Workers Peasants Party(NWPP) in line with an electoral alliance forged between the two parties has emerged victorious in the race for mayor of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality.
Shrestha won the election with 14003 votes, compared to 10,846 votes garnered by his closest rival Nepali Congress mayoral candidate Asta Kumar Abe.
NC registers win in Madhyapur Thimi
Shrestha trounced Abe by a margin of 3157 votes. However, voters did not choose NWPP deputy mayoral candidate Kedar Khadka who was a common candidate of the two parties that forged an electoral alliance. This resulted in the victory of Nepali Congress(NC) deputy mayoral candidate Anjana Madhikarmi who secured 10,665 votes, compared to 8,123 votes garnered by her closest rival NWPP deputy mayoral candidate Khadka.
NC , CPN-UML, NWPP, and one independent candidate clinched ward chairperson position in 6 wards, 1 ward, 1 ward and 1ward respectively.
