KATHMANDU: The second biggest ruling party, CPN-UML, has termed irrelevant the government´s decision to set up a thermal plant for generating electricity to alleviate the ever-increasing load shedding regime.

Issuing a statement on Thursday, chief of the party´s Water and Energy Department Pradip Nepal said that installing a thermal plant does not appear to be a sustainable solution in a country with abundant water resources.

The cabinet meeting on Wednesday decided to come up with a detailed plan to attract investors in such a plant and provide them government aid and assistance. The thermal plant concept was proposed by Minister for Water Resources Bishnu Poudel, who is a leader of the UML party.
