UK ambassador pays courtesy call on DPM Shrestha

KATHMANDU, Sept 1: Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Nepal, Rob Fenn, has paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singha Durbar today, DPM Shrestha congratulated Ambassador Fenn for the completion of 100 years of Nepal-UK treaty of friendship and wished him a successful term.

Extending gratitude towards continuous support of the UK in Nepal's development, he mentioned that there were also multi-dimensional relations between the governments and the peoples of the two countries.

The home minister further said institutionalizing the historic changes established after six-decade long political struggle by means of socio-economic development was the main responsibility of the government. He stated that support of development partners of Nepal was significant for the same.

Saying Nepal is going to be upgraded from the least developed country status in 2026, he emphasized that the support of friendly countries would be further crucial to making it sustainable.

Similarly, Ambassador Fenn said Nepal's constitution has been praised by the world and expressed the view that there is harmony between priorities and policies of the government of Nepal and assistance of the UK.

Mentioning that the UK assistance was focused on social justice, the campaign against violence against women, and on the physical infrastructure development of Nepal, he assured that he would be effortful to further strengthen the relations between the two countries during his stay in Nepal.

Ambassador Fenn viewed that he was proud of the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Friendship and it was necessary to further modernize the relations between the two countries. 

"A separate identity about Nepal has been established in the UK and there is a profound goodwill of the people of UK towards Nepal," he shared, adding it was their responsibility to further strengthen the relations between the two countries.
