153 arrested on charge of drug abuse in last 11 months


UDAYPUR, June 7: Available evidence suggests that Udayapur has turned into a hub for drug dealers and users over the recent years. Police have been arresting drug users and dealers every other day. On Wednesday, police arrested two teens with a huge cache of drugs. A day before that, two youths were nabbed in possession of drugs. Three days before that, a father and son were arrested with drugs.

Those arrested on Wednesday are 14 and 16 years old boys. Another youth belonging to their group was successful in running away. Pushparaj Rai, 14, and Milan Rai, 16 of Triyuga Municipality-12, were caught from Churiya forest of Triyuga-6. Another member of their group Nirjan Khadka is currently at large. Police confiscated 611 ampules of various kinds of banned drugs and 25 injections. Police have accused that they have been selling drugs in Gaighat Bazaar for quite some time now.


The District Police Office (DPO), Udayapur, made them public on Wednesday by organizing a press conference. Police also informed that search has been intensified to find Khadka. According to chief of DPO, Superintendent Nawaraj Bhatta, drugs such as Lupigesic, Phenergan, Diazepam and Nurofen among others were recovered from the bags of the arrestees.


Police informed the conference that a total of 153 individuals have been arrested in this fiscal year so far. SP Bhatta further said that 88 of the 153 cases have been forwarded to the court while 118 arrestees have been released on bail. The court has ordered to keep 19 of them under judicial custody while two are at large.
