KATHMANDU, March 21: The UCPN (Maoist) defended its leader Bal Krishna Dhungel as innocent and termed ongoing ‘Occupy Baluwatar’ movement against the peace process.

Issuing a press statement today, UCPN (Maoist) Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that crimes related to decade-long insurgency should be addressed through proposed Truth and Reconciliation Commission. [break]

“The ongoing protest demanding public action against our leader is against the spirit of the Supreme Court as matter is still sub-judice. The protest is also against the peace process,” the statement reads.

The party also claimed that that Dhungel was innocent and not involved in murder of Bhuwan Shrestha.

“He (Dhungel) was framed by the then government and detained for nearly eight years for the crime that he never committed. Following the severe torture by the security forces he even damaged one of his kidneys,” the statement further says.
