Party vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha-led team of party leaders also sought necessary amendments to some provisions in the draft constitution in line with past accords and the 16-point agreement.Party leaders have also accused the constitution drafting committee of CA of not abiding by the directive of the CA plenary and the 16-point agreement.
Though the party agreed to parliamentary system in the draft statute, its leaders, including Baburam Bhattarai and Shrestha have stood for directly elected executive presidential system.
"It would be wrong if we go for parliamentary system as it would jeopardize the changes achieved so far," Shrestha said. "Thus, directly elected executive presidential system should be adopted in the new constitution. The new constitution should also incorporate public feedback on the draft statute."
The party has also demanded tentative geographical delineation of the federal provinces prior to promulgation of the new constitution.
Sticking into the party's previous stance, UCPN (Maoist) has also suggested reappointing justices in the apex court and office bearers of the constitutional bodies after the commencement of the new constitution. Party leaders have also demanded revision of the provisions related to citizenship, inclusiveness, electoral system, judiciary and rights of women, Dalits and marginalized and suppressed communities. The party has also demanded inclusiveness and proper representation in appointments to constitutional bodies and inclusion of laborers, peasants and deprived class through proportional representation electoral system.
CA Chairman Subas Nembang said that he will ask the respective CA committees to accommodate the suggestion submitted by the party leaders.
