DHANKUTA, Aug 17: A large number of people in the district have been affected by pneumonia and typhoid.

Polluted water and the change is the weather has led to the rise in the number of people coming for treatment of typhoid and pneumonia, Dr Devendra Bhattarai at the district hospital said.

More than 100 people suffering from fever come to the hospital every day and majority of them are found to be carrying the typhoid virus, he said.

Concluding that the number of fever patients was the highest in the past 60 years, the District Administration Office called for an all-sides meeting and decided to run public awareness programs on controlling the disease, and stopping it from taking epidemic proportion.
