ITAHARI, Oct 5: Police on Sunday arrested two members of Young Communist League (YCL) on the charge of attacking transport workers in Itahari.

A group of over 25 YCL cadres, who were returning form Jhapa after attending a program, had attacked transport workers Kaji Rai, Dambar Tamang, Ishwari Tamang, Pappu Jha and Lalan Sah, according to the police. Those arrested are YCL Sunsari district members Bal Bahadur Gurung and Ramesh KC.

Transport workers have accused YCL district leaders Bhim Subedi, Ritesh Shrestha and Suresh Thapa of directing their cadres to beat them up. Besides, they have also accused the attackers of taking away Rs 16,500 and four sets of Nokia mobile phones from them.

The Maoist party said YCL members attacked the transport workers as the latter forced YCL cadres to get off in Itahari though they wanted to go to Inaruwa. YCL leader Subedi said he did not direct YCL cadres to attack the workers.
