KATHMANDU, Oct 12: Police on Sunday arrested two students on the charge of beating up an assistant professor of Tribhuvan University with an iron rod.
A team of police from the Metropolitan Police Range, Teku, arrested Rupesh Shah, 23, and Rabin Kumar Lama, 24, on the charge of hitting Prem Chalaune, an assistant professor at the Central Department of Sociology, with a metal rod on his head. The assistant professor has sustained serious injuries in his head.
Last Tuesday, the arrested had attacked Chalaune on the premises of the university. Both the assailants were absconding following the incident.
According to police, Shah, a permanent resident of Siraha district, was arrested from Koteshwar, while Lama, also from Siraha, was arrested from Gol Bazar in Siraha.
Chalaune is currently receiving treatment at Nepal Mediciti Hospital.
It has been learnt that Chalaune was attacked by Nepal Student Union (NSU) cadres over issues concerning the appointment of the head at the Central Department of Sociology.
