Two robbers killed in retaliation

JANAKPUR, Jan 23: Two robbers were killed and one was critically injured in the retaliation by the local people of Mahadaiyatpur of Mahottari on Sunday night. A gang of dacoits, allegedly numbering about a dozen, attacked the village and looted for nearly two hours.



Yogendra Paswan, 30, and Ram Ekwal Paswan, 45, of Debdiha of Dhanusha got killed when villagers retaliated after they broke into the houses of Ramdhyan Yadav and Dinesh Yadav with the intention of robbery. [break]



While Yogendra died on the spot, Ram Ekwal died in the course of treatment at Janakpur Regional Hospital. The condition of Jayaprakash Paswan, who received injuries after villagers struck back, is critical.



Half a dozen locals, too, were injured in the clash. Among them, the condition of Dharoharadevi, 50, is critical. She is undergoing treatment at the same hospital. Rambinod Yadav, a local, claimed that the dacoits fired in the air when the villagers tried to capture them.



However, Jayaprakash, the injured, claimed that they were not dacoits but workers at a brick factory near the village.



He said that the deceased too were workers and had gone to the village to help chase the robbers. The police said they are investigating the incident.
