SAPTARI, Mar 13: Within 24 hours, two women, aged 18 and 31 were raped in Saptari’s Shambhunath municipality and Bishnupur rural municipality on Sunday and Saturday respectively.
An 18 year girl from Sambhunath Municipality-3, Saptari was gang raped for almost four hours on Sunday night, police confirmed. The girl was waylaid by two men when she was on her way to buy medicines at around 8 PM. She was then taken to a wheat field and raped for hours, SP Mukesh Kumar Singh, chief of Saptari Police said.
According to the woman, the two men later called three of their friends to the scene who also took turns raping her. The alleged culprits threatened to kill the girl if she was to make noise.
Concerned that their daughter hadn’t returned home for long, the victim’s family started to look for her. At midnight, they found their daughter in the wheat field, half naked and unconscious. “We informed the police and brought her home,” the mother said adding that the culprits had already evaded from the scene.
Minor gang-raped in Saptari
The police acted immediately on Sunday night and have arrested two accused. “We have arrested two accused and are searching for the remaining three,” Singh said adding that those on the run were between the age of 18-25.
After preliminary statement, the victim was taken to Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Regional Hospital, Rajbiraj for treatment on Sunday itself. Police are awaiting medical report.
On Saturday, a 31 year Dalit woman was gang raped by two of her villagers. The woman was returning from Haat Bazaar at 7 PM when she was waylaid to the bushes of Koshi canal by the villagers and raped in turns. Police are searching for the culprits.
“We’ve deployed police in every area to nab the accused,” Singh said adding that the victim had reported the incident the very day. “Immediately, we had initiated search operation,” Singh said.
In the past month, six incidents of rapes have been reported in Saptari district. The victims age from two year minor to 31 years.
