Two policemen injured in clash with Maoist cadres

KATHMANDU, May 6: Police fired tear gas shells on Maoist supporters when they tried to vandalize a statue of King Mahendra on Durbar Marg Wednesday morning, police said. The shells were fired on Maoist cadres on Durbar Marg near Ghantaghar.



Two policemen were injured in a clash with cadres when the latter pelted stones after police tried to prevent the cadres from vandalizing the statue.



Meanwhile, vehicular movement in Ratnapark area has been badly affected due to the protest demonstration by the Maoist cadres. The traffic jam in Ratnapark has badly affected vehicular in other parts of the valley as well.



Hundreds of Maoists cadres have been staging demonstration against the move of President Dr Ram Baran Yadav to block the erstwhile Maoist government´s decision to sack army chief Rookmangud Katawal. The cadres have gathered at Ratnapark starting 11 a.m. for the protest.



Earlier, the agitating Maoist cadres had burnt down tires in Sorhakhutte chowk to mark the protest.
