KATHMANDU, Jan 4: Police on Monday morning arrested two people including an Indian national with almost Rs 15 million that was being smuggled to Nepal.
During a regular security check, the Nagdhunga Metropolitan Police Circle raided a vehicle with registration number Province 3-01—023 Cha 2259 at Nagdhunga in Kathmandu and found Rs 14.76 million smuggled to Nepal from India.
Those arrested have been identified as Amit Kumar Gupta, 30, an Indian national, and Sangam Tharu, 22, a resident of Banganga Municipality-4 in Kapilvastu district.
During the preliminary investigation, police found that the money was brought to Nepal in small amounts and was exchanged with Nepali currency in the Koshi region.
“The money was hidden in different parts of the car,” said police.
Police have already sent the arrested to the Department of Money Laundering Investigation for further investigation into the case.
