Two of Shrestha's attackers surrender

KATHMANDU, March 20: Two persons accused of attacking BK Shrestha, the managing director of Hotel Radisson, have surrendered at Metropolitan Police Range Office, Lalitpur on Wednesday.



Shrestha´s car was attacked by an unidentified group at Ekantkuna, Lalitpur on Friday morning. Though he did not receive any serious injury, the car was badlydamaged.[break]



According to SSP Rajendraman Shrestha, chief at the Metropolitan Police Range Office, Lalitpur, the two confessed that they were involved in the attack. Shrestha said Salikram Jamarkattel, Maoist trade union leader, brought the two to the police office and that investigation into the attack is on.



The two that have surrendered to the police have been identified as Madhav Pandey, 28, of Rautahath and Mukunda Pant, 24, of Kavre. Pandey is a member of All Nepal Hotel, Casino and Restaurants Worker´s Association, while Pant is the union secretary at Hotel Sangrila, according to the police.



The two have been remanded to seven days in custody, police said.



After the attack, different organizations, including the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) had strongly condemned the incident.



They had suspected that workers associated with UCPN (Maoist) were involved in the attack as they have been attacking officials of the hotel management for the last couple of months. The workers associated with the UCPN (Maoist) had refuted the charge.
