RAJBIRAJ, March 12: The District Police Office (DPO) of Saptari on Thursday made public two Indian nationals arrested on the charge of possessing firearms. They were arrested from Nargho VDC near the Nepal-India border on Wednesday night.

Acting on tip-off, a team of police personnel had arrested the two and seized two countrymade pistols and 19 bullets. The arrested were riding a motorcycle with Indian number plate and had entered the Nepali village around three kilometers from the border.

The arrested have been identified as Kailu Prasad Sah, 24, of Ladaniya village, Madhuvani district of Indian state of Bihar and and Pramod Kumar Sah, of Kupha of Supaul district in the same state, according to Shishir Kumar Karmacharya, chief of District Police Office (DPO), Saptari.

“It has been challenging for us to curb such activities from Indian nationals in the district due to the open border,” SP Karmacharya said.

Police have yet to learn about the duo's motive behind crossing over to Nepal in possession of firearms. The DPO said the two are being investigated. According to preliminary investigation, the two had come to Nepal to attend a wedding ceremony in the village.
