Two electrocuted, 18 injured by high-voltage current

RAUTAHAT, Dec 9: Two persons were electrocuted and 18 others were injured at Handikhola VDC of Makawanpur district on Wednesday morning.

The Nepal Electricity Authority had replaced a new transformer in the VDC on Tuesday after the existing transformer exploded.


The incident happened after high voltage electric current leaked to private homes. The deaths and injuries occurred as the victims attempted to turn off electrical appliances. The dead have been identified as 17-year-old Sharmila Dimdung Lama and Thulimaya Moktan, 70, of ward number four of the same VDC.

Both Lama and Moktan died on the spot, according to the District Police Office.

Likewise, 18 people injured in the incident were from ward numbers 3 and 4 of Handikhola VDC. They were rushed to Hetauda hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, Chief District Officer (CDO) Ram Prasad Thapaliya informed that representatives from District Administration Office, District Electricity Authority and political parties visited the VDC immediately after the incident.
