Jeep driver Rajan Rai of Kanyam-4 and passenger Meera Neupane of Garamani-7, Jhapa died when the jeep (Ra 1 Ja 166) had a head-on collision with a passenger bus (Na 4 Kha 6120) heading for Jamunkhadi, Jhapa from Pipalbote, Ilam.
Police said the duo breathed their last while undergoing treatment. Others injured in the accident are being treated at hospitals in Jhapa.
Bus driver Dal Bahadur Gurung is absconding after the accident.
Meanwhile, 43 persons were injured when two speeding passenger buses rammed on each other at Ghagra bridge in Ghailadubba-9 along the East-West Highway at 9:30 in the morning.
Police said most of the injured have returned home after treatment while a few critically injured have been taken to Siliguri, India and Biratnagar.
