Two from Appa´s team give up
Two foreigners who were part of ace climber Appa Sherpa´s Eco Everest Expedition gave up their effort to reach the summit and returned to Kathmandu Tuesday, organizers Asian Trekking said.
“Henry and Jesse, who were aspiring to conquer the summit with Appa, returned to Kathmandu after feeling unable to endure the physical demands of the climb,” said Sanjaya Baral, expedition officer at Asian Trekking.
Tragedy struck Appa´s team on May 7 when an avalanche killed one Sherpa high-altitude climber. And on May 13, bad weather made the team retreat to Lobuche from Base Camp.
Appa, 48, is seeking to set a new world record of 19 successful ascents of Everest and beat his own record.
Baral said Appa is planning to get to the top on May 21.
