Although DSP Karmacharya refused to divulge any details about KC and Gharti, the police sources told Republica that they were primarily arrested in connection with a series of bomb plantation cases in Dang.
On Friday morning, a grenade was found in a jeep (Ba.8 Cha 7567) of Western Development Bank, Ghorahi. Two bombs were found near Lamahi of Dang on Thursday. The discovery of three bombs in two days has triggered a panic among people.
The police first rounded up Gharti near a bus park in Tulasipur and then arrested KC, believed to be a resident of Rolpa district, on a tip off provided by Gharti.
As the interrogation of Gharti and KC continued till late Friday evening, the police have not revealed much about their backgrounds. However, DIG Parbati Thapa, chief of Mid Western Police Office, said, “We suspect that both Gharti and KC might have involvement in serious crimes in the past.”
The police said the kind of weapon and bullets recovered from Gharti and KC´s rented room are found only in the possession of either the Nepal Army (NA) or former Maoist combatants. The police are likely to shed further light on the arrest at a press conference on Saturday.
