KATHMANDU, March 19: The government is all set to construct a tunnel road to address the existing traffic jam problem at the Nagdhunga-Thankot road section.

The Department of Roads has concluded the survey study for the construction of the 2.5- kilometer-road at Sisnekhola to Basnetchhap in Nagdhunga. The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has agreed to provide the loan at one per cent interest rate for the next 40 years, said Deputy Director General and Chief of the Nagdhunga Tunnel Road Project, Sanjay Kumar Shrestha. The Department estimates the construction cost at Rs 15 billion, said Shrestha.

The Project would start the tunnel construction within the next one and half years.

Thousands of vehicles to and from Kathmandu have to stay in queue for hours to cross the road most of the time due to the narrow road and traffic pressure. RSS
