Tuberculosis patients rising in Banke

NEPALGUNJ, April 11: For the last five years, the number of people suffering tuberculosis has been rising by five to seven percent in Banke district.

The District Public Health Office has maintained the record that 14 people had died of tuberculosis last year. In average, three percent of the tuberculosis patients lose their lives every year.


As the Office said as many as 904 people are currently receiving treatment to cure tuberculosis in the district. Among those, 544 are males and 360 females.

Various 59 health centres including hospitals provide treatment, said focal person, Prem KC. The tuberculosis patients are administered medicine in the presence of trained health worker regularly for eight months, while those with severe condition are admitted in the health centres and provided treatment.

However, the record shows that 13 percent of such patients stop taking medicine in the middle owing to ignorance and insensitivity to the disease.

The district has been successful to ensure treatment to 87 percent of the tuberculosis patients. RSS
