KATHMANDU, Oct 9: An EU Troika has urged political parties to iron out differences in order to lead the peace forward and to ensure that the constitution drafting process met the May 28, 2010 deadline.

“The Troika urges all political parties to overcome the current political impasse by making compromises that would result in the resumption of the proceedings of the legislature parliament and forward movement on key peace process issues,” said Klas Molin, head of the six-member Troika at a press conference ending their two-day visit to Nepal.

The Troika met the president, the prime minister and political leaders during its stay in Nepal. Molin also urged political parties to work together in a spirit of compromise, trust and cooperation to ensure steady progress.

The Troika has also expressed its concern over failure to act on outstanding human rights abuses. It expressed its concern over incidents of disappearances, widespread impunity and by reports of human trafficking.
