Triton into next round

KATHMANDU, June 13: Triton College entered the pre-quarterfinals of the ongoing White House Cup U-19 National Men´s and Women´s Basketball Tournament with an impressive 57-36 win over Premier College in the men´s category on Monday.



Triton dominated first two quarters of the match played at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium, which was enough for the team to gain a spot in the pre-quarterfinals. [break]



Triton scored 12-2, 21-5 and took a 26-point lead by the end of the second quarter. Triton fielded second choice players in the third quarter and lost 10-17. Triton then bounced back and grabbed the fourth quarter 14-12. Anish Shahi scored 15 points for the winning team.



In another match, Saswat Singh´s 17 points guided National Campus to the pre-quarterfinals with a 58-46 win over Gyan Niketan. National took all the quarters 9-8, 15-12, 18-14, 16-12 for the win. Despite the loss against Morgan College, National has reached the second round.



Trinity College thrashed New Summit School 50-33. Trinity took the first three quarters 18-11, 11-5, 12-6 and lost the final quarter 9-11. Binoj Maharjan Scored 12 points for the team.



The experimental U-14 national team lost to Golden Gate College 67-35. Golden Gate took control of the game scoring 15-8, 14-11, 22-9, 16-7 in all four quarters. Suk Dev Thapa was the highest scorer with 24 points.



CCRC boosted its hope of qualifying for the second round after hammering White House, Khumaltar 60-32. Both the teams drew the first and last quarters 17-17, 2-2 while CCRC took hold of second and third quarters 14-6, 19-7.



In the women´s category, Seema Karki´s nine points guided White House for a 33-30 win by a narrow margin over Xavier International at the home court of White House. Xavier took the first and the third quarters 10-9, 11-4 but lost the second and fourth 9-2, 11-7.



In another match of the women´s category, Morgan College thrashed a team from Kaski 43-14. Sujata Rai was the highest scorer with 19 points.



The men´s team of Kaski on the other hand put up a good show defeating Lord Buddha College of Morang 76-21. Kaski took a 17-11 lead in the first quarter and kept the opponents under pressure throughout the game. Kaski scored 15-2, 20-6, 24-2 in the remaining three quarters to seal the match.



Bishal Gurung contributed 26 points in Kaski´s victory.
